WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Our canal offers something for everyone: it long since ended its role as a working canal but retains much of its historical interest. It now forms part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

ON-SITE CAFE

The Arkwright Society owns and leases the buildings around the site to various businesses, and runs Wheatcroft’s Wharf Cafe.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Cromford is well served by both train and bus services.  The scenic Derwent Valley Line rail service between Nottingham, Derby and Matlock calls at Cromford every hour Monday to Saturday and throughout Sunday.  It is a 10 minute walk from the railway station to the canal wharf.  Find out more at the Derwent Valley Line.

There are hourly bus services from Derby, Belper, Matlock, Wirksworth, Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield and Sheffield to Cromford Village, a five minute walk from the canal wharf.  There are other buses to surrounding towns and villages. CAR PARKING

There is a large “pay and display” public car park adjacent to Cromford wharf operated by Derbyshire County Council – which gets very busy in at weekends and in the summer.
