‘ON THE CUT’
NEW DATE SET DUE TO HIGH DEMAND.
SEPTEMBER 11th 2017. Bookings now being taken.
WITH ERIC GASKELL
FRIDAY 5th MAY 2017
Birdswood is hosting renowned canal artist and printmaker Eric Gaskell GoWA SGFA, who will lead a one-day small group workshop. We’re really lucky to get Eric to come along – he’s a busy chap with books and many canal prints to his name, alongside other projects like designing book covers and the title graphics for BBC1’s ‘Canals: The Making of a Nation’ last year.
The day will start with a cruise to gather inspiration and reference material. After a sketching session, participants will look at how to draw for print, then how to translate their sketch into a single colour linocut: how small a mark can you make, does that need to be white, could the black and white balance work better? In the afternoon we’ll moor up back at Cromford Wharf to cut and print small linocuts, and you will take away the basic knowledge to create your own.
It doesn’t matter if you’re an absolute beginner, improver or intermediate – as long as you can sketch your ideas. Tools and materials are provided – but bring drawing materials and linocut tools if you like.
Cost for the day is £65 inc drinks and light refreshments on board. The workshop will run from 10.30am to 4pm. Bring a packed lunch or avail yourself of Wheatcrofts Cafe!
Places are limited to 8 participants. A £30 non-returnable deposit will hold your place until Friday 7th April, when the full balance is payable. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07552 055455 to book.
Please share to waterways groups/pages and art groups if you belong – it goes without saying that all profits from the day will advance FCC’s restoration campaign. And if this new initiative is successful, we hope to be running other hands-on arts events later in 2017!
