It is now over two years since Birdswood came to Cromford Wharf and the boat was due for its biennial out of water survey by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The last such survey was carried out in the dry dock at the other end of the Cromford Canal at Langley Mill before the boat came to Cromford in July 2013. Since there is not (yet!) a dry dock at Cromford, this time the boat had to be lifted out of the water by crane and positioned for inspection on stands on the peninsula at the wharf. This was very ably carried out by Walkers of Tuxford, the same company that had been used to bring the boat from Langley Mill.
