The Derwent Valley

Event Details

Discovery Walks

Annually the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (DVMWHS) organise this fortnight of walks and tours. They are spread up and down the Derwent Valley and a detailed events guide is produced to help you plan your time. These can be picked up from various locations from the end of April, including our shop on Cromford Wharf. Alternatively you can download a copy here. (when released)
This large event attracts hundreds of visitors to the local area and allows the secrets of our history come to life. There are the usual walks taking you around the more common places and there are always a few quirky tours that take you into the unknown. One of these popular locations was in Belper where a guide showed off the old Lavatory spots around the town, the stories are interesting and amusing.
The fortnight is finished off with a finale at Cromford. The Gothic Warehouse is transformed into a Historical Display of the restoration that The Friends of Cromford Canal have achieved so far. There are also stalls, artists and a tombola inside. Outside there will be Family activities, displays from a model boat group, stationary engines, Traction Engines and more.
